Post Doctoral Scholar - Surgery
The Wu Laboratory in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center invites applications for an NIH-funded Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases.
Research focuses include, but are not limited to, sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy, ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac remodeling, BBB dysfunction in aging, vascular biology, and metabolic disorders. Experimental approaches include genetically engineered mouse models, MI and sepsis (CLP/LPS) models, aging and metabolic disease models, and molecular, cellular, imaging, and translational techniques.
The successful candidate will conduct independent research, publish in high-impact journals, present findings at national and international scientific meetings, and contribute to NIH grant applications. The laboratory provides strong mentorship, abundant collaborative opportunities, and a supportive environment with the goal of preparing outstanding trainees to become independent Principal Investigators.
Required Qualifications
- PhD, MD/PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in cardiovascular biology, molecular biology, immunology, physiology, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
- Strong publication record and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates post PhD degree (within two years of completing their PhD) are especially encouraged to apply.
- Research experience in cardiovascular biology, vascular biology, inflammation, metabolism, aging, neuroscience, or related fields.
- Experience with rodent research, mouse surgical models (e.g., MI or CLP), echocardiography, or cardiovascular phenotyping is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
We welcome highly motivated scientists who are passionate about translational cardiovascular research and committed to developing successful independent academic careers.
