Position: URGENTLY HIRING: Research Associate I

Research Associate I

The Contract Research Associate I in high throughput process automation (HTPA) will utilize automation workflows and robotic liquid handlers to execute experiments for the development and optimization of downstream processes. This role involves performing experiments to support the development of automated high throughput analytical assays for the Analytical Development team. The candidate will generate reliable and reproducible data with thorough documentation, operating in a collaborative environment with HTPA, and working closely with Upstream Process Development, Downstream Process Development, Analytical Development, and Vector Core groups to develop robust manufacturing processes for AAV vectors.

Responsibilities

  • Operate laboratory automation equipment (e.g., Tecan) to support high throughput process development experiments using various chromatography techniques.
  • Support the development of high throughput analytical assays.
  • Participate in lab management activities, including preparation of laboratory reagents, maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, and ordering of laboratory materials.
  • Analyze, collate, track, and report data back to stakeholders.
  • Work independently and efficiently.
  • Document work clearly and perform tests accurately.
  • Communicate results effectively with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a safe, efficient, and effective work environment with personal accountability.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in biology, virology, PCR, molecular biology, ELISA, animal research, RNA, and gene therapy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Basic laboratory skills including buffer making, pipetting, and weighing, with at least 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team, effectively handling multiple priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in downstream processing techniques for the production of biologics and viral vectors is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory automation or advanced laboratory equipment such as Aktas or robotic liquid-handlers is a plus.
  • Experience in programming/coding (e.g., equipment software, C++, Mat Lab, Python) is advantageous.

Work Environment

This role is based in a lab environment where the candidate will spend most of the day working with animals, with some time spent at a desk. The work is conducted in a new state-of-the-art facility within a growing start-up company in cell and gene therapy manufacturing.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
