Post Doctoral Scholar

The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead and perform cutting-edge research projects in circadian biology, with a focus on biochemical reconstitution of the cyanobacterial clock system and downstream transcriptional regulation. Responsibilities include molecular cloning, protein purification and biochemical characterization, assay development, and quantitative analysis of experimental data.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will maintain complete and well-organized laboratory notebooks and research records and contribute to maintaining an organized, efficient, and safe laboratory environment. The candidate will present research findings at local and national scientific meetings, prepare high-quality manuscripts, contribute to grant applications, and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students in research techniques and scientific practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, or a closely related field by the anticipated start date.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research.
  • Strong experimental and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate scientific findings effectively in written and oral formats.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong background in recombinant protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization.
  • Extensive experience with molecular cloning and DNA manipulation techniques.
  • Experience developing and optimizing high-throughput biochemical or molecular assays.
  • Experience with fluorescence-based assay development.
  • Experience with biochemical reconstitution of multi-component protein systems or signaling pathways.
  • Experience with microbial genetics, genomics, or synthetic biology.
  • Strong understanding of the cyanobacterial circadian clock system, including the KaiABC oscillator and downstream signaling and transcriptional pathways.
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to rigorous, reproducible research.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join an NIH-funded research project investigating the molecular mechanisms of circadian gene regulation using a prokaryotic model organism. Our laboratory studies how the cyanobacterial circadian clock generates and transmits temporal information to regulate downstream cellular processes. We use a combination of biochemical reconstitution, molecular genetics and genomics, and synthetic biology approaches to understand the mechanisms and design principles of biological timekeeping.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing and applying in vitro reconstitution systems for the cyanobacterial circadian clock and its downstream transcriptional regulatory pathway.
