Dr. Diana Zepeda-Orozco's Lab focuses on Onco-nephrology and use of biomarkers to identify specific kidney injury phenotypes for targeted therapeutic approaches. The laboratory uses pre-clinical models and human samples to develop mitochondrially targeted therapeutic approaches leveraging tumor and normal cells metabolism differences to protect from chemotherapy and radiation induced nephrotoxicity without protecting tumor cells. The fellow will work under the mentorship of an established CRI principal investigator or Senior Research Scientists to design experiments and develop protocols to conduct research to understand kidney toxicity associated with using anti-cancer therapies in different preclinical models.

Zepeda-Orozco Lab | Nationwide Children's Hospital

General Description:

Conducts research, designs experiments, analyzes data, and presents findings under the mentorship of an established RI principal investigator or Senior Research Scientists. Appointment is a maximum of 7 years in length.

Essential Functions:
  • Conducts research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
  • Assists in the training and supervision of technical support staff in performing research essential to carrying out the research program.
  • Records and analyzes data generated by the research study. Assists in the development of hypotheses for further investigation from the results of the studies performed.
  • Assists with the preparation of scientific and technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Presents findings at local and national research forums.
  • Collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH or at The Ohio State University.
  • Works toward research independence, preparing to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.
Education:
  • PhD or equivalent degree in relevant field of science, required.
Skills:
  • Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with scientists, physicians, and laboratory colleagues.
  • Skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Ability to proactively manage and drive projects.
