Garden Center Assistant Manager

Support the Team. Drive Operations. Help the Department Grow.

We are looking for a motivated, hands‑on Garden Center Assistant Manager to help lead daily operations within our garden center. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership abilities, retail or horticultural experience, and a passion for creating an organized, customer‑focused environment.

The Assistant Manager works closely with department leadership to support staff, maintain high merchandising and plant care standards, oversee customer service, and help ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations throughout the garden center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with overseeing daily garden center operations
  • Support and direct team members to maintain productivity and service standards
  • Help manage plant care, watering schedules, merchandising, and overall department appearance
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked sales areas
  • Assist with receiving deliveries, inventory management, and product organization
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and visual merchandising throughout the department
  • Provide customers with knowledgeable recommendations regarding plants, trees, shrubs, gardening supplies, and seasonal products
  • Help resolve customer concerns in a professional and positive manner
  • Assist with training and coaching team members
  • Support scheduling, task delegation, and daily operational priorities
  • Maintain safety standards and assist with overall facility upkeep
Qualifications
  • Previous retail, nursery, greenhouse, garden center, or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead by example and work effectively within a team environment
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, outdoor retail environment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing business needs
  • Basic plant knowledge preferred; willingness to continue learning required
  • Ability to lift 25–75 lbs and remain active throughout the workday
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and peak seasonal periods
