The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a PhD or MD/PhD researcher to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview

The Department of Surgery at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) and the James Comprehensive Cancer Center are recruiting an open-rank faculty member with a basic or translational science research focus in colorectal cancer. Expertise in oncogene sis, treatment resistance, microbial interactions, bioinformatics, drug discovery, or immunotherapy is a plus. Candidates are expected to have an established research program with a successful record of publications and extramural funding.

The opportunity will take advantage of an extensive internal collaborative network of researchers in the University and Cancer Center and will benefit from clinical collaborations and access to human specimens.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, implements and conducts research studies; develops and writes grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding to support the research program; obtains and maintains NIH R01 or equivalent funding
  • Writes and publishes research in high quality peer-reviewed journals; presents at national and international conferences; develops national and international scholarly reputation
  • Instructs and mentors junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participates in department, college and university committees and initiatives
Requirements
  • PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field
  • Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research
  • Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer-reviewed journals (preferred)
  • Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01)
  • Academic experience a plus
  • Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level – rank and salary commensurate with previous training and experience
