Position Overview
The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a PhD or MD/PhD researcher to join the Department of Surgery, Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Academic rank and track are commensurate with academic record and experience. This position is 100% research. The Division seeks highly qualified PhD level candidates to expand its breadth of basic and translational research, leveraging clinical excellence in esophageal, bariatric, and abdominal wall surgery into scientific success.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, plan, design, implement, and conduct research studies; develop and write grant proposals to secure extramural funding, including maintaining NIH R01 or equivalent support.
- Write and publish research in high‑quality, peer‑reviewed journals; present findings at national and international scientific conferences and develop a scholarly reputation.
- Instruct and mentor junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents, and fellow trainees; participate in departmental, college, and university committees and initiatives.
- PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field.
- Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research.
- Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01).
- Academic experience is a plus.
- Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level; rank and salary will be commensurate with prior training and experience.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
