Position Overview

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a PhD or MD/PhD researcher to join the Department of Surgery, Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Academic rank and track are commensurate with academic record and experience. This position is 100% research. The Division seeks highly qualified PhD level candidates to expand its breadth of basic and translational research, leveraging clinical excellence in esophageal, bariatric, and abdominal wall surgery into scientific success.

• Conceptualize, plan, design, implement, and conduct research studies; develop and write grant proposals to secure extramural funding, including maintaining NIH R01 or equivalent support.
• Write and publish research in high‑quality, peer‑reviewed journals; present findings at national and international scientific conferences and develop a scholarly reputation.
• Instruct and mentor junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents, and fellow trainees; participate in departmental, college, and university committees and initiatives.

• PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field.
• Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research.
• Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01).
• Academic experience is a plus.
• Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level; rank and salary will be commensurate with prior training and experience.
