Position OverviewThe Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn Surgery seeks highly qualified PhD level candidates to join its cutting‑edge research team. The Division, within the Department of Surgery, aims to expand basic and translational research using clinical care across trauma, complex emergency general surgery, and high-volume surgical critical care. Researchers will leverage access to patients and biospecimen samples to drive scientific success.
Expertise in sepsis, inflammation, infection, and immune cell function is a plus. The Division has a strong record of publication, grant writing, and funding and seeks to expand this by creating a collaborative science model between clinicians, clinician‑scientists, and scientists.
This position is 100% research.
Duties and Responsibilities- Conceptualize, plan, design, implement, and conduct research studies; develop and write grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding to support the research program; obtain and maintain NIH R01 or equivalent funding.
- Write and publish research in high‑quality, peer‑reviewed scientific journals; attend and present research at national and international scientific conferences; develop national and international scholarly reputation.
- Instruct and mentor junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participate in department, college and university committees and initiatives.
- PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field.
- Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research.
- Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer‑reviewed journals (preferred).
- Current, active extramural grant funding equivalent to NIH R01.
- Academic experience a plus.
- Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level; academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience.
