Responsibilities- Under the general supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, perform renovation and restoration tasks to maintain aesthetic components of the facilities interior and exterior.
- Modify and install drywall, doors, windows, ceilings and flooring; inspect and repair fire-rated walls and doors; perform finishing tasks; update building drawings as necessary.
- Respond to emergency situations and evaluate and correct defects. May assist lower level facilities technicians. Assist other trades as needed; adhere to safety practices and procedures; clean and maintain work areas and equipment; attend meetings; properly complete documentation; provide a high level of customer service.
- Operate department vehicles; perform other duties as assigned. Support the university value of integrity and accountability to establish a culture of professionalism.
- Carpentry: fabricate, install, repair and replace cabinets, walls, doors, ceilings, countertops, masonry, fencing, windows and sills; frame and modify doors; install/repair/replace bathroom stalls and cubicles.
- Finishing: install/repair/replace ceilings, handrails, molding, door/window casing; install/repair/replace hardware, vents, panels; install/repair/replace wall coverings; skim coat and sand walls; paint/stain surfaces.
- Fire-Stopping: inspect fire-rated doors and walls; install intumescent materials and fire stop systems; interpret NFPA 101 and UL firestop codes and apply standards.
- Flooring: install/repair/replace flooring; repair subfloors; install/repair/replace stairs and transition strips.
- Technical Support: ensure compliance with codes; document regulatory tests; transfer equipment knowledge to staff; assist with emergencies; update drawings.
- Communication/Recordkeeping: document labor, materials and work performed; request equipment/materials; provide feedback on materials; inform customers when tasks are completed; escalate work orders when needed.
- Other Duties: participate in professional development, meetings, trainings, orientation; may serve on committees; assist other areas and staff.
Minimum Classification Requirements: High school diploma/GED or equivalent; two years’ experience in general construction, carpentry, fire-stopping or painting; within probationary period: valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry card; successful completion of probation includes demonstrated competence in two of the following technical specialties: rough carpentry, finishing; fire-stopping, flooring. May require valid State of Ohio driver license.

Qualifications:
Associates/technical degree or certificate in skilled trades/maintenance; valid fire-stopping card; basic understanding of university building design standards related to maintenance/repair of building systems and equipment; basic understanding of the project process as managed by FOD Design and Construction.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to push/pull 70 lbs; distinguish colors; climb and stand on ladders for extended periods; may work in hot, cold, dusty or dirty environments; may work in cramped spaces.
