Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic
The primary responsibility of the Apprentice is to provide support to the automotive and design/build upholstery business including repairs, refurbishment and fabrication of interior soft goods. This includes installation of convertible tops, automotive seat covers and components, automotive interior panels, automotive carpets and other misc. upholstery including but not limited to stripping and recovering existing interior coverings on automotive and marine vehicles.
In addition, this position supports the design/ build upholstery business including repairs, refurbishment and fabrication of restaurant and commercial seating and design panels as well as various equipment covers, bags, and other protective equipment. To effectively perform in this role, the employee’s duties include:
Daily Tasks:
- Assist in the installation of convertible top fabrics on all makes and models of vehicles.
- Removes and reinstalls automotive seating and interior components from the vehicle to gain access to necessary components in the course of a convertible top replacement or interior modification.
- Assists in providing a well‑maintained, safe, and economical facility by assuring the highest level of quality to each customer and employee, economically, properly, and profitably.
- As the needs of the business requires: assists in removing existing covers and upholstery, applies new covers and upholstery using adhesives, staples, hog rings etc, and reinstalls completed components into the vehicle according to customer specifications and Tritex Corporation approved procedures in a safe and organized work area.
- On the job training to include prepping and painting of interior pieces, seat cover removal and reinstallation, basic sewing, quality control, proper use of specialized upholstery tooling and general upholstery skills.
- On the job training to include aircraft and auto detailing.
- Must be able to work well in confined areas, frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, walking, climbing, standing, squatting/kneeling, twisting/turning and repetitive movement.
- Must be able to easily climb up and down ladders or stairs, and stand/reach for long periods of time.
- Driving of company and customer vehicles.
- Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, pass prior work history verification, pre‑employment and random drug screening and TSA clearance requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work with hazardous chemicals.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Strong attention to high quality, detailed work.
- Patience and willingness to perform repetitive routines.
- Organized and Detailed.
- Dependable.
Physical:
Reads small print; hearing sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting; must be able to see color.
Environmental:
Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments. Based on the workload of the business, the upholstery technician may be utilized in other areas of the business including but not limited to aircraft, automotive/marine and design/build upholstery.
