Embedded OPTEX Data Center Physical Security Technician — Columbus, OH
The OPTEX Data Center Physical Security Technician is responsible for maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting all OPTEX devices within a data center environment. The technician should have a well‑rounded knowledge of access control systems, surveillance, alarm monitoring, and be able to ensure integrator compliance with company security standards. The role demands technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to maintaining a secure operational environment.
Key Responsibilities 1. Security Systems Management- Program, configure, and maintain OPTEX Sensors.
- Integration, IP Connectivity.
- Align and correct improperly installed devices.
- Basic Knowledge of IDS Systems.
- Perform regular audits, tests, and inspections of security systems to ensure optimal operation.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve system faults or connectivity issues promptly.
- Monitor physical installation to ensure cable and conduit paths are correctly laid out.
- Troubleshoot OPTEX LIDAR devices that have shown to have false alarms.
- Coordinate with IT, Facilities, and Security Operations teams to ensure end‑to‑end system integrity.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date system documentation, including configurations and maintenance logs.
- Ensure compliance with corporate security policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements for the facility in which you are embedded.
- Assist in audits and certification processes by providing required security data and documentation.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and oversee vendor servicing of OPTEX devices used in the facility.
- Assist in evaluating new technologies and vendors to enhance physical security posture.
- Ensure spare parts inventory and service records are up to date.
Education:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Information Technology, Security Management, or related field is preferred not required (or equivalent experience).
- 2–5 years of experience in physical security system administration, preferably in a data center or critical infrastructure environment.
- Strong understanding of:
- IDS Systems.
- Alarm monitoring software and hardware.
- Network fundamentals (IP‑based cameras, system connectivity).
- Ability to read and interpret system schematics, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.
- Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Physical ability to perform hands‑on installations, inspections, and maintenance tasks.
- Genetec, Lenel
S2, or similar system certification. - CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
- BICSI or other low‑voltage wiring certification.
- OSHA Safety Certification.
Conditions:
- On‑site position within a 24x7 data center operation (may include shift, weekend, or on‑call coverage).
- Requires occasional lifting, ladder use, and hands‑on equipment handling.
- Reports to:
Field Application Engineer Assigned to East Region. - Works closely with:
Security Operations, Facilities, and IT Infrastructure Teams.
