Position Overview

Individual shall perform various duties around the facility which include general laboring, maintenance, equipment, dredge, and plant operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist plant foreperson with the daily operations and upkeep of the plant. Duties may include general labor, shoveling, performing necessary equipment maintenance, and assisting foreperson and/or crew members as needed.
  • Clean up around plants, equipment, and surrounding area.
  • General understanding of OSHA & MSHA regulations.
  • Perform welding and fabrication duties as required.
  • Detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.
  • Understand and follow directions.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including Haul Tuck, Water Truck, Dump Truck, Dredge, Track Hoe, Frontend Loader, and Skid Steer Loader.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Adhere to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Maintain timely and regular attendance.
  • Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Personal Protective Equipment

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Required equipment may include welding gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, padlocks for Lockout/Tagout, safety (hard toe) shoes, seatbelt and harnesses when required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical and Vision Requirements

Physical demands represent those required to successfully perform essential functions. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear. Frequently required to sit, climb, or balance. Requires distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Must regularly lift and/or move around 25 pounds and may also have to move over 50 pounds with equipment assistance.

Work

Environment

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. Exposed to wet, humid conditions, airborne particles, extreme heat or cold, occasional vibration. Noise level usually loud and may require protective equipment. Hot, cold, wet weather conditions may be present. Exposed to high heat, moving equipment, working with others.
