Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for advanced and specialized electrician maintenance necessary to ensure effective facilities operations within a healthcare environment. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, equipment repair, and facility/equipment inspection. This position supports other facilities associates, projects, and activities based on organizational needs.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Understand Hospital/Campus normal and emergency power systems.
  • Read and understand National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm code).
  • Familiar with OSHA Electrical Safety and NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the workplace).
  • Read and understand schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, and one-line drawings for electrical installation and troubleshooting.
  • Install, replace, and repair receptacles and switches as necessary.
  • Inspect work of outside contracts for quality, compliance with codes and design standards.
  • Organize and replace lamp and ballast stock supplies as required; interior and exterior.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace campus interior and exterior lighting systems.
  • Perform emergency egress testing and replace/install battery exit lights, EM light fixtures, battery ballast and batteries.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on emergency power generation systems.
  • Perform testing and documentation to comply with JACHO, NFPA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Test and troubleshoot Automatic Transfer Switches.
  • Perform electrical device testing in patient care areas.
  • Use multi-meter, amp meter, circuit tracer, megohmeter, and insulation tester.
  • Maintain, install, repair, and replace motor controllers and variable frequency drives.
  • Research, plan, and estimate installations of new electrical circuits/equipment.
  • Install conduit systems for electric power and control systems (EMT, rigid, PVC).
  • Install new branch circuits from existing and new panel boards.
  • Install and upgrade existing panel boards, safety switches, disconnects, and transformers.
  • Install, repair, and troubleshoot building control panels, devices, and wiring.
  • Research and set up temporary wiring for electrical outages during construction and upgrades.
  • Maintain electrical shop stock inventory and process purchase order requests.
  • Prepare estimates and contact vendors when needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned.
  • Work independently on and off campus.
  • Complete work orders daily, enter time in computer, file paperwork.
  • Respond to emergency calls during normal working hours and serve as rotating off‑hours emergency contact during scheduled on‑call period.
  • Communicate work status to supervisor and management daily.
  • Continue education on electrical controls, motor controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Follow all departmental procedures, policies, and safety equipment requirements.
  • Assist mechanics, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electronics technicians as needed to complete repair and preventive maintenance of electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • Work various schedules and hours to complete code‑compliant testing, system repairs, utility outages, and general work orders when necessary.
  • Maintain all mechanical rooms: keep area and equipment clean and painted, maintain shop area clean and neat to provide a safe environment.
  • Hold a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and operate hospital vehicles per insurance carrier requirements. Use personal vehicles to travel to off‑site clinics or properties when assigned.
  • Follow all departmental safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School or GED (Required).
  • Driver’s License (Department of Motor Vehicles).
Specialized Knowledge
  • Preferable 1 year journeyman level experience in a hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing fire alarm systems, electronics, and motor controls.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with construction projects as part of design and implementation, including reviewing work of external contractors and project turnover.

Day shift, scheduled weekly hours: 40. Department:
Plant Operations.
