Job SummarySeeking experienced operators to join our construction team. The operator will perform duties safely and professionally, maintaining equipment, performing daily preventive maintenance, and operating trench protection equipment. A valid driver’s license and a pre‑employment drug screening are required. Operators will travel to various job sites throughout the area and work with crew assisting and leading in construction activities.
Job Responsibilities- Communicate with PMs, foreman, crew leaders, and labor
- Operate various tamping machines as per specifications
- Inspect equipment, perform everyday maintenance, and fill out inspection sheets
- Loading and unloading jobsite materials
- Maintain a neat and clean work area
- Inspect and operate hand tools for various activities
- Operate track‑hoe, back‑hoe, mini excavator, skid steer, dozer, and haul trucks
- Excavate and backfill trenches for proposed underground utilities
- Operate safely around live utilities
- Work with hand signals from labor
- Know shoring systems and how to use them
- Rigging and setting of structures
- Assist in activities such as placement of conduit in open trenches, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring concrete, and placing asphalt
- Maintain safety and optimal utilization of company vehicles
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and completed activities
- Observe and promote safety compliance
- Complete 20 hours of OVE required safety training annually
- Participate in random drug screenings
- Report injuries and other accidents to foreman and/or PM
- Ensure the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift
- Coordinate daily tasks according to specs and plans
- Perform scope of work and recognize work done outside of the scope
- Emphasize safe use of tools and equipment
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating equipment for underground utility construction
- Ability to work with and assist crew in hoisting material, structures, tools, and equipment
- Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods
- Customer service skills to communicate with inspectors, crew, and administration
- Ability to provide clear orders to employees
- Technical skills for interpreting construction methods, specifications, and drawings
- Team player with a history of working successfully with a team to complete a common goal
- Time management skills to meet deadlines
- Writing skills to document everyday reporting
- Knowledge and experience in reading and understanding blueprints
- In‑depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines, equipment, and construction procedures
- High school or equivalent education
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Subject to a pre‑employment drug test and MVR
- Ability to follow instruction
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with crew, leadership, and clients
- Ability to meet physical demands of the position; lift up to 75 pounds
- Excellent vision or the use of prescription lenses
- Exceptional manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination
- Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions
Skills & Qualifications
- Provide suggestions for continued improvement
- Minimum 5 years of operating equipment
- Experience in excavating around live utilities
- CDL driver’s license
- Computer skills
- OSHA 30 and trench/excavation safety training / competent person training
