HVAC / Rack Refrigeration Technician
Locations: Columbus, OH
Compensation: $34–$38 per hour (based on experience)
We are seeking experienced HVAC / Rack Refrigeration Technicians. Each technician will be assigned to a primary site and will be responsible for maintaining critical mechanical and refrigeration systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations.
This is a hands-on role for a technician with strong experience in HVAC, refrigeration systems, and facility maintenance who can diagnose, repair, and maintain complex building systems while minimizing equipment downtime.
Key ResponsibilitiesHVAC / Refrigeration Operations
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC and rack refrigeration systems and related mechanical equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance and respond to service requests on HVAC/R systems and facility equipment.
Maintain refrigeration equipment, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated piping systems.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and perform repairs to restore system performance.
Building Systems Maintenance
Maintain and repair electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, lighting, and building infrastructure.
Perform interior and exterior building repairs including fixtures, walls, flooring, and roofing components.
Conduct routine inspections of mechanical systems and equipment to identify potential issues before failure.
Maintain detailed records of system performance, repairs, and maintenance history.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Conduct hazard assessments and identify potential safety risks.
Maintain compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
Complete required safety training and follow defensive driving practices when operating a vehicle.
Administrative & Operational Support
Update work order status in real time using CMMS platforms such as Corrigo.
Document maintenance activities and submit purchasing receipts as required.
Escalate operational issues or equipment concerns to management in a timely manner.
Participate in scheduled operations and safety meetings.
Experience
Minimum 4 years of hands‑on experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or building engineering.
Strong experience with commercial HVAC systems and refrigeration equipment, including rack systems.
Working knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, and mechanical equipment maintenance.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical components.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Trade school training or apprenticeship in HVAC, electrical systems, or refrigeration preferred.
Certifications
EPA Universal CFC Certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
Additional licenses may be required based on local jurisdiction.
Skills
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
Solid understanding of HVAC and refrigeration system operation.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet and work at heights.
Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and overhead work.
Ability to work in extreme temperatures and outdoor conditions.
Must be able to climb ladders rated for 300 lbs while carrying tools (~20 lbs).
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
