Position Summary
Under the general direction of a supervisor, perform complex tasks that ensure the uninterrupted operations of automated, electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Inspect, test, modify, program and repair automated, electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Perform advanced troubleshooting of automated, electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Assist other trades as needed, adhere to all safety practices and procedures, clean and maintain work areas and equipment, attend meetings, properly complete documentation, provide a high level of customer service, and communicate to customers, coworkers and supervision via written, electronic and verbal methods.
Operate department vehicle and perform other assigned duties. Actively support the university’s commitment to integrity and personal accountability.
Lead a team of facilities technicians. Mentor, train and provide technical expertise to other staff. Distribute work orders in supervisor’s absence. Respond to emergency situations and evaluate and correct defects. Identify, communicate, coordinate and complete projects and work performed in the assigned area(s). Operate department vehicle and perform other duties as assigned. Shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational need.
May work overtime and is subject to a 24‑hour emergency call.
- Branch Circuitry: Install and reroute electrical raceway (e.g., conduit, liquid‑tite mold). Respond to and analyze local electrical outages. Install, repair, and replace branch circuits and associated components: circuits, lighting, ballasts, receptacles, switches and outlets. Upgrade lighting systems and components. Update electrical panel legends. Review building drawings. Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits and relays. Perform electrical system PMs. Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of electrical circuits.
- Electronic Systems: Install, repair and replace nurse call system components (e.g., bedside controls, emergency pull stations, staff control stations, processing cards). Install, repair and replace electronic systems and related components (e.g., automated lighting, televisions, master clock, public address, safety and security). Install, repair and replace pneumatic system electronic components. Install, repair and replace motors and gears. Install, adjust, repair and replace automated systems and related components.
Perform electronic system PMs. Perform advanced troubleshooting of electronic systems. - Electrical Distribution Systems: Install, repair/replace energized electrical distribution system components—motor controls, transformers, switchgears, emergency generators, panels, circuits, etc. Install, repair/replace variable frequency drives (VFD) circulating fans. Perform work on de‑energized systems. Perform advanced troubleshooting/root cause analysis of electrical distribution system.
- Pneumatic Transport Systems: Install, repair/replace pneumatic tube system components including, but not limited to, slide gates, tube stations, dispatchers, input/output boards, motor drives, etc. Install, repair/replace waste flow system components including, but not limited to, user display, door magnet, air control valves, radiation detectors, tube assemblies, filters, monitors, etc.
- Fire Alarm Systems: Respond to fire alarm system alerts. Disable, enable, and replace fire alarm system components (e.g., detectors, bells, strobes). Install, repair, replace smoke evacuation systems. Update fire alarm system server applications.
Lead a team of technicians. Mentor and train technicians. Facilitate on‑the‑job training. Coordinate work performed in assigned area. Lead projects.
General Duties (25%)Technical Support: Ensure areas are in compliance with applicable codes. Document regulatory compliance tests. Facilitate building walk‑throughs with key stakeholders.
