Overview

Under the general direction of a supervisor, performs complex tasks that ensure the uninterrupted operations of automated, electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Inspects, tests, modifies, programs and repairs automated, electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Performs advanced troubleshooting of automated, electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Responds to emergency situations and evaluates and corrects defects. Identifies, communicates, coordinates and completes projects and work performed in the assigned area(s).

Leads team of facilities technicians. Mentors, trains and provides technical expertise to other staff. Distributes work orders in supervisor’s absence. Assists other trades as needed; adheres to all safety practices and procedures; cleans and maintains work areas and equipment; attends meetings; properly completes documentation; provides a high level of customer service; communicates to customers, coworkers and supervision via written, electronic and verbal methods and devices;

operates department vehicle; performs other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties and at times, other job‑related duties as required.

  • Branch Circuitry (55%): installs and reroutes electrical raceway (conduit, liquid‑tite mold), responds to and analyzes local electrical outages, installs, repairs and replaces branch circuits and associated components, upgrades lighting systems and components, updates electrical panel legends, reviews building drawings as necessary, troubleshoots and repairs electrical circuits and relays, performs electrical system preventive maintenance, performs advanced troubleshooting and repair of electrical circuits.
  • Electronic Systems
    : installs, repairs and replaces nurse call system components, automated lighting, televisions, master clock, public address, safety and security, pneumatic system electronic components, motors and gears, performs electronic system preventive maintenance, performs advanced troubleshooting of electronic systems.
  • Electrical Distribution Systems
    : installs, repairs/replaces energized electrical distribution system components—motor controls, transformers, switchgears, emergency generators, panels, circuits—; installs, repairs/replaces variable frequency drives; performs work on de‑energized systems; performs advanced troubleshooting/root‑cause analysis of electrical distribution system.
  • Pneumatic Transport Systems
    : installs, repairs/replaces pneumatic tube system components including slide gates, tube stations, dispatchers, input/output boards, motor drives, wall/housing assemblies; installs, repairs/replaces waste flow system components including user displays, door magnets, air control valves, radiation detectors, tube assemblies, filters, monitors.
  • Fire Alarm Systems
    : responds to fire alarm system alerts, disables, enables and replaces fire alarm system components (detectors, bells, strobes), installs, repairs/replaces smoke evacuation systems, updates fire alarm system server applications.

Mentorship (20%): leads team of technicians, mentors and trains technicians, facilitates on‑the‑job training, coordinates work performed in assigned area, leads projects.

General Duties (25%): ensures compliance with codes, documents regulatory compliance tests, facilitates building walk‑throughs with key stakeholders, inspects and tests installations and repairs to ensure they meet quality standards, becomes knowledgeable of equipment and utilities and transfers that knowledge to other staff, updates building drawings, locates, identifies, disables and enables local utility shut‑offs, generates permits, troubleshoots and resolves field problems, participates on emergency response teams.

Communication / Recordkeeping
: documents labor, materials and work performed on work orders, submits material and equipment purchase requests, provides feedback on materials, creates estimates for small projects, informs customers when tasks are completed, initiates work order escalation if…
