Under the direction of a senior technician or supervisor, the Facilities Building Systems Technician 1 performs intermediate-level tasks to maintain a safe, comfortable, and operational environment. This role supports the continuous functionality of mechanical and utility systems, equipment, and indoor air quality.
Key Responsibilities- Provide building support services, including inspection, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair or replacement of building systems and equipment.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations involving electrical, mechanical, or medical gas disruptions; assess and resolve issues and initiate appropriate protocols when problems cannot be immediately resolved.
- Assist other trades as needed to ensure seamless operations.
- Adhere strictly to all safety practices and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
- Attend meetings and complete required documentation.
- Deliver high-quality customer service and communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors using written, electronic, and verbal methods.
- Operate departmental vehicles as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Actively support the university’s commitment to integrity and personal accountability, fostering a culture of professionalism in the workplace.
- Work schedule (shift, hours, days, and/or location) is subject to change based on operational needs and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
- May be required to work overtime and be available for 24-hour emergency call response.
A high school diploma is required, along with a minimum of two years of experience in building systems operations, commercial or industrial building maintenance, and/or HVAC and building automation systems. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Certification RequirementsThe following certifications must be obtained during the probationary period:
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification – Universal
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety and Health Card
Successful completion of the probationary period also requires demonstrated competency in each of the technical specialties relevant to the responsibilities of this position.
Additional Information:
The Target Hiring Range for this position is $23.70 - $29.63 per hour
