Floor Prep Technician

Kermans, a subsidiary of Artisan Design Group (ADG), provides professional flooring installation services for residential homebuilders. The Floor Prep Technician plays an essential role in preparing concrete and wood subfloors to ensure flooring installations meet quality, safety, and manufacturer standards. This position works closely with field operations, installers, and project teams to complete floor preparation activities accurately and efficiently before installation begins.

Success in this role means job sites are properly prepared, flooring installations begin on schedule, quality standards are maintained, and work is completed safely while supporting a positive customer experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare concrete slabs and wood subfloors to support high-quality flooring installations.
  • Grind, sand, level, and repair floor surfaces to ensure they meet installation specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Secure wood subfloors to minimize movement and reduce the potential for squeaks or installation issues.
  • Apply floor preparation materials and leveling compounds as needed to create smooth, even surfaces.
  • Inspect prepared surfaces to verify readiness before flooring installation begins.
  • Communicate project progress, field conditions, and changes in project scope to the Field Operations Manager.
  • Maintain company equipment, tools, and vehicles in safe working condition.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and job site requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment on each job site.
  • Work collaboratively with installers and field operations to support project schedules and customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of construction, flooring installation, or related field experience.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to meet company motor vehicle record standards.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to read basic instructions, perform measurements, and complete simple mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to operate common construction tools and floor preparation equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience preparing concrete or wood subfloors.
  • Experience with residential new construction flooring installation.
  • Knowledge of flooring products, installation methods, and manufacturer requirements.

Physical Demands

  • Driving:
    Ability to operate a company vehicle and travel between multiple job sites throughout the workday.
  • Mobility:
    Frequently required to walk active construction sites and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Lifting/Carrying:
    Frequently lift and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Positioning:
    Regularly required to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work in confined or awkward positions.
  • Manual Dexterity:
    Ability to safely operate power tools, grinders, sanders, and other floor preparation equipment.
  • Vision:
    Ability to inspect floor surfaces, identify defects, and verify quality of workmanship.
