Role Overview

The Building Automation Service Technician is responsible for servicing, maintaining, commissioning, and troubleshooting Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems across commercial and industrial facilities.

This field-based position plays a critical role in maximizing building performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform startup, commissioning, and functional testing of BAS/DDC systems
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC controls, controllers, sensors, actuators, and field devices
  • Perform preventative maintenance and optimize existing building automation systems
  • Modify programming, schedules, graphics, alarms, and sequences of operation
  • Complete point-to-point checkout and verify proper system operation
  • Troubleshoot BAS communication networks including BACnet, Modbus, LON, and IP-based systems
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and mechanical plans
  • Respond to customer service calls while providing exceptional customer support
  • Collaborate with customers, project managers, contractors, and internal teams
  • Maintain accurate electronic service documentation while following OSHA and company safety standards

You're a hands-on problem solver who enjoys troubleshooting complex HVAC controls and automation systems. Qualifications

Required

  • Experience servicing Building Automation Systems (BAS), Direct Digital Controls (DDC), or HVAC Controls
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Preferred

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Johnson Controls (Metasys)
  • Siemens
  • Automated Logic (ALC)
  • Alerton
  • Honeywell
  • BACnet
  • Modbus
  • LON
  • IP-based building networks

Trade school, vocational training, or equivalent technical experience is a plus.

Location & Schedule

This position supports commercial and industrial customers throughout the Greater Columbus, Ohio area with daily local travel between customer sites. Standard weekday schedule with occasional after-hours emergency service support as needed.
