Welding Field Technician

Overview

The Welding and Robotics Field Service Technician develops and maintains strong customer relationships to support the success of their manufacturing operations through Panasonic welding and robotic automation solutions. This role is responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of robotic welding systems, welding power sources, positioners, and related automation equipment, and provides technical support throughout the product lifecycle, including post-sales service, programming assistance, preventive maintenance, and customer training.

Working independently at customer sites, this individual diagnoses and resolves complex electrical, mechanical, robotic, and welding process issues while ensuring maximum system performance and uptime. They deliver high-quality service, promote customer satisfaction, and serve as a professional representative of Panasonic in support of its welding and robotic automation products.

• Quickly learn and develop a solid understanding of all Panasonic welding products and arc welding processes to ensure full proficiency in the field
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, robotic, PLC, networking, and welding process issues in a timely manner with minimal supervision or assistance
• Determine when a service call is necessary, including the possibility of same-day travel to be on-site
• Attend internal meetings and partner with the Sales Team to meet with clients and partners to ensure their needs are met
• Provide services such as preventive maintenance, upgrades and retrofits, repairs, production support, and welding improvement at customer facilities, system integrators, and the office in OH
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating manuals, training materials, service procedures, and presentation content to support customer and internal training initiatives, and provide training classes on these materials to system integrators, distributors, and other business partners
• Complete documentation, including service reports, investigation reports, and internal reporting documents, in a timely manner
• Troubleshoot effectively and efficiently, while working in potentially high-pressure circumstances, to achieve 100 percent problem resolution within 24 hours of arrival at the customer site
• Adhere to all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements while working in manufacturing environments
• Manage assigned service calls and projects independently while meeting customer expectations and company performance standards
• Maintain a high level of technical expertise through continuous learning and training on welding, robotic, and automation technologies
• Serve as the primary technical representative for customers and ensure a professional, customer-focused experience at all times
• Provide post-sales training to customers and integrators on Panasonic robots and welding products, including operation, maintenance, applications, and safety procedures
• Communicate effectively and promptly with internal departments, including Technical Support, PMO, Sales, Product Teams, Spare Parts, Engineering, Order Processing, and Accounting
• Provide follow-up service evaluations for customer satisfaction
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Establishment of the preventative maintenance schedules with customers and service coordinator

• Minimum of 5 years of field service, application engineering, controls engineering, or technical support experience with a major industrial robotics OEM or robotic systems integrator
• Strong background in robotic welding applications, including arc welding processes, weld quality, process optimization, and automated welding systems
• Hands‑on experience with industrial robots
• Working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
• Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical, mechanical, robotic, servo, and control system issues in manufacturing environments
