Occupational Therapist
Location: Educational Service Center of Central Ohio (ESCCO), Columbus, Ohio
Job DescriptionProvide interventions and evaluations informed by evidence; identify learning opportunities to enable students to improve skills within the context of everyday activities and routines.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Evaluate students as part of the multi‑factored evaluation process covering self‑care, fine motor, visual‑motor, sensory processing, and related areas.
- Assist with the development of the individualized education program (IEP) for students.
- Plan and implement therapy programs, develop a therapy schedule, and participate in team meetings and conferences.
- Use effective behavior‑management strategies to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment and be responsible for care, custody, and supervision of students.
- Incorporate and promote instructional technology; uphold the acceptable use policy.
- Utilize appropriate assessment, data collection, and progress‑monitoring methods to inform instruction and monitor progress.
- Consult with parents, school personnel, and outside agencies, providing families with techniques to assist with therapeutic interventions at home.
- Provide general supervision of an occupational therapist assistant when assigned, and co‑sign all documentation as required.
- Provide in‑service training to parents and school personnel.
- Participate on building‑level teams.
- Engage in professional growth activities through staff development, workshops, in‑services, and higher education.
- Uphold Board policies, follow administrative guidelines, comply with Federal and state laws, and model policies and procedures for the education of students with disabilities.
- Ensure paperwork accuracy, meet all timelines and deadlines, and strictly adhere to HIPAA and FERPA; maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
- Maintain high ethical standards and exhibit professionalism, self‑control, flexibility, satisfactory attendance, and dependability.
- Adapt to unique circumstances such as travel, extended hours, student behaviors, lifting/transferring students, and interactions with aggressive or disruptive individuals.
- Complete additional duties assigned by the superintendent or designee.
- Valid state license to practice as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Ohio OT/PT/AT Board.
- Valid Pupil Services Registration issued by the Ohio State Board of Education.
- Master’s degree or equivalent.
- Documentation of a clear criminal record in compliance with state statute.
- Compliance with drug‑free workplace rules and Board policies.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle availability (may be required).
- Meet all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the service center’s insurance carrier.
Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
