Encova Insurance is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, AWS for our Columbus, Ohio location. This is a hybrid role with three days in office expected each week and you must reside within the Columbus, Ohio area for in person work and collaboration.

Essential Functions- Design, develop, and maintain cloud‑native applications using AWS services, ensuring performance, scalability, and security best practices.
- Implement serverless and container‑based solutions on AWS.
- Develop and optimize APIs using API Gateway, AWS App Sync, and/or Graph
QL. - Build and manage infrastructure as code (IaC) using AWS CDK, Terraform, and/or Cloud Formation.
- Improve reliability and observability by implementing logging, monitoring, and alerting with AWS Cloud Watch, X‑Ray, and third‑party tools.
- Optimize AWS workload performance and cost by leveraging autoscaling, caching, and serverless best practices.
- Adopt AI‑assisted tools and practices across the SDLC, including AI governance, enablement, and value tracking.
- Thrive in ambiguous environments through design docs, dependency mapping, cross‑team influence, vendor collaboration, and secure delivery under regulated‑data constraints.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Dev Ops, security, and product management to deliver high‑quality solutions.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
- Stay up to date on AWS advancements and industry trends to continuously improve cloud solutions.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience in software development, with at least 3 years focused on AWS‑native development.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, required.
- Hands‑on experience with serverless computing, container orchestration, and cloud automation.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using AWS Code Pipeline, Git Hub Actions, or similar.
- Familiarity with event‑driven architecture using SNS, SQS, and Event Bridge.
- Strong understanding of relational and No
SQL databases (RDS, Dynamo
DB, or Aurora). - Solid problem‑solving skills and a passion for innovation in cloud‑native solutions.
- Deep expertise in AWS‑native cloud technologies to design, develop, and optimize scalable cloud applications.
- Extensive experience in building distributed, high‑performance applications, leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, Dynamo
DB, S3, API Gateway, and more. - Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to design scalable solutions for complex business needs.
- Ability to foster a sense of purpose among the team and create a culture of transparency with clear accountabilities and metrics.
- Foster innovation and high agency while converting business and architecture intent into technical designs, integration contracts, and quality controls.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and with business stakeholders.
