About the Role
Nationwide® is a Fortune 100 company seeking a full‑stack application developer to improve the Developer Experience (DevXP) by designing and developing security accelerators and products. The role focuses on integrating security into the entire SDLC and enabling developers to deliver business value securely and efficiently.
Hybrid
Schedule:
3 days per week in the Columbus, Ohio office (Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays).
- Contribute to the development of security accelerators and products adopted by Nationwide’s development lines.
- Design and develop new security tools and applications.
- Support and maintain existing application assets and tooling.
- Integrate security technology into the CI/CD pipeline to improve overall application security while preserving a positive developer experience.
- Automate onboarding and integrations to security tooling adopted by Nationwide.
- Uplift the skills and capabilities of the Application Product Security development team.
- Learn new skills and technologies, especially cloud application platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Compute).
- Analyze, solve, develop, test, debug, document, and deploy software according to standards and best practices.
- Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Use Dev Sec Ops practices, tooling, and techniques.
- Drive continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice, and innovation.
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.
- Experience with Java and the related ecosystem.
- Experience developing software in additional languages (Angular, JavaScript, Python) is preferred.
- Practical experience with source code management tools and practices (Git, Git Hub, Git Hub Flow, pull requests, code reviews).
- Practical experience with CI/CD tools (Concourse, Jenkins, Harness, or comparable technologies).
- Practical experience with unit testing.
- Hands‑on Kubernetes experience.
- Hands‑on experience with at least one cloud provider (Azure, Amazon, GCP).
- Understanding of the complete Software Delivery Life Cycle.
- API development experience.
- Practical experience in cloud native development.
- Undergraduate degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related field. Non‑traditional technology certificates can substitute for an undergraduate degree.
- Two or more years of analysis and technology experience.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
- Knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
- Proven ability to tackle moderately sophisticated business and development problems.
- Ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Insurance or financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. Overtime eligibility:
Not Eligible (Exempt). Working conditions may vary; on‑call responsibility after normal working hours is possible.
