Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Sr Engineer, Software Engineer - Full-stack (Java/Angular) 2 - 5 years' experience

Ideal Skill Set

  • Java: Experience developing with Spring Boot and designing, building, and maintaining REST APIs.
  • .NET: API development experience, including familiarity with LINQ for data querying.
  • Angular: Frontend development experience, with the ability to work within and extend existing Angular applications.
  • SQL: Working knowledge of relational databases and query writing.
Additional Preferred Skills
  • Git Hub Actions: Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline automation. Knowledge of Nationwide’s internal Actions library is a significant plus for internal candidates, particularly as the team prepares for upcoming chart migration work aligned with golden paths.
  • Git Hub Copilot: Experience using Copilot to plan and execute package and version migrations—not solely for code generation.
  • Apigee: API proxy experience is a plus, especially for internal candidates familiar with Nationwide’s proxy enforcement rules. Strong external candidates can be trained in this area.
  • Technical documentation literacy: Ability to read and interpret technical change logs, migration guides, and framework release notes, including identifying breaking changes in Angular versions that may affect the team.
Additional Qualifications
  • Independent ownership: Takes responsibility for assigned work, operates effectively with minimal direction, and navigates ambiguity to resolve blockers.
  • Self-directed debugging: Troubleshoots and resolves issues in their own code without relying on others as a first resort.
  • Curiosity-driven learning: Learns unfamiliar systems and functionality by tracing code, researching available information, and building understanding from first principles.
  • Legacy code literacy: Comfortable understanding and extending existing codebases. Much of the team’s work involves enhancing established systems rather than building entirely new applications.
  • Continuous learning: Motivated to stay current with the tools, frameworks, and development practices the team uses today and adopts in the future.

This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week on Mondays & Tuesdays.

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.
