Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:- High school diploma.
- Meet all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
- Documentation of a clear criminal record in compliance with state statute.
- Comply with drug-free workplace rules and Board policies.
- Meet qualifications defined in the current Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Pupil Transportation Operation & Safety Rules, and school board policy.
- Valid driver's license and successful completion of van driver training within a timeline specified by the service center. Employees must meet all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the service center's insurance carrier.
- Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug test results.
- Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.

Responsibilities andEssential Functions:

- Operate the assigned vehicle according to all motor vehicle laws. Keeps the assigned supervisor informed about emerging issues.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative guidelines and procedures.
- Promote a favorable image of the service center. Supports community/school partnerships that enhance the service center's operational effectiveness.
- Practice defensive driving techniques. Maintain established routes and time schedules.
Note:
Safety is the top priority, even if delays disrupt the routine schedule. - Perform visual vehicle safety inspections. Immediately reports unsafe conditions and/or defective equipment.
- Promote the proper use and care of school property. Report student discipline problems, vandalism, and other related concerns.
- Respect personal privacy. Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Watch for behavior that may indicate a problem.
- Report evidence of suspected child abuse and neglect as required by law.
- Assume responsibility for the interior/exterior cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Attempt to identify and report vehicles that fail to comply with traffic regulations.
- Use proper protocol when operating communication equipment.
- Immediately report all traffic citations and accidents. Promptly document all injuries that require medical attention.
- Report road hazards to the supervisor.
- Participate in safety training programs as directed.
- Fuel the vehicle and maintain fluid levels (e.g., oil, windshield washer, brake, transmission, etc.). Document fuel consumption and mileage as directed.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
- Accept personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
- Strive to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others.
- Perform other specific job-related duties as directed by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
- Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
- Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
- Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
- Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.
- Duties may require using a computer keyboard and monitor.
- Duties may require working extended hours.
- Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
- Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
- Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
- Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
Job performance is evaluated according to the policy provisions adopted by the Governing Board of the EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER OF CENTRAL OHIO.
