The organization values equity and inclusion and seeks a Medical Assistant to support physicians, advanced practice practitioners, and nurses in Deliver comprehensive patient care on the Commack campus.
Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting providers with patient care, validating patient identifiers, preparing patients and rooms, measuring vital signs, performing phlebotomy and other specimen collection, performing Point‑of‑Care testing, maintaining EMR documentation, and handling administrative tasks such as scheduling, answering calls, and data entry.

- Clean and stock exam rooms.
- Measure and record patient vital signs.
- Obtain and process blood samples per NYULH policy.
- Support quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for EMR documentation.
- Promote a positive patient experience.
- Communicate effectively with providers and administrative staff, escalating issues as needed.
- Answer phone calls.
- Review and respond to inbox messages.
- Follow up on prescription refill requests.
- Assist physicians with patient intake and transcribe visits into EPIC.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Complete patient intake, obtaining vital signs and tests within scope of practice.
- Validate patient medical record information when accessing and updating EMR.
- Assist with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Ensure exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient.
- Communicate the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake.
- Ensure appropriate translation services or equipment is available prior to visit.
- Assist with specimen collection and proper handling and processing of patient specimens as per policy.
- Perform Point‑of‑Care testing (EKG, glucose testing, pregnancy test, urinalysis) per policy, with required competency documentation.
- Prepare patient encounters ensuring all relevant information is up‑to‑date.
- Review and import “Prepare for your Visit,” “Outside Information,” and patient history before provider encounter.
- Support FGP clinical quality management by reviewing and updating clinical safety logbooks.
- Maintain patient privacy in accordance with HIPPA standards.
- Document patient communications and refer clinical questions to RN/Provider.
- Manage inbox messages related to patient medical advice per best practices.
- Utilize EPIC to review and update patient records and communicate with peers and supervisors.
- Assist physicians with procedures or set‑up as required by specialty.
- Stock exam/treatment rooms and/or supply closets with medical supplies, linens, and equipment.
- Cleans and sterilizes designated equipment after use, documenting competency.
- Facilitate documentation and maintenance of clinical supplies and equipment per FGP standards.
- Review downtime procedures related to patient visits.
- Complete annual competencies (Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Med Sled, HIPPA compliance, etc.).
- Collaborate with administrative and clinical personnel on prior authorization, medication refills, and referrals for patient continuity of care.
- Assist with prescription refill requests by locating prescriptions in EMR, identifying last visit, and coordinating evaluation and renewal with RN, LPN, or Provider.
- Accompany physicians into exam rooms and transcribe complete history and physical exam into EPIC.
- Document patient orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
- Perform additional assigned duties.
