Ambulatory Care Nurse

The Ambulatory Care Nurse supports coordination, integration, communication, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures. The role participates in organizational quality and performance improvement activities, collects patient healthcare data systematically, and collaborates with licensed providers to develop patient‑centered plans of care that prescribe interventions to achieve expected outcomes. The nurse provides comprehensive care, including administration of treatments and medications, disease prevention guidance, rehabilitation care, public health care, and supportive care for symptom relief, including health teaching and counseling.

• Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
• Collect patient health history.
• Record information in electronic health record.
• Provide information, counsel, and education to patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans.
• Administer medications (including vaccination, IV therapy, oxygen administration), provide comprehensive wound care, and perform phone and in‑person triage for clinical concerns.
• Assess and monitor patient responses to treatments, procedures, and anesthesia.
• Consult with clinical supervisors and licensed providers to determine best treatment plans.
• Direct, supervise, and delegate to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and technicians to support patient flow and efficiency.
• Perform other duties as needed.
• Support coordination, integration, communication, and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures.
• Ensure clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
• Support key quality initiatives such as MIPS and Care gap management.
• Participate in activities related to NYULH clinical standards and relevant outside agencies.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and promote collegial relationships.
• Serve as a support and resource for nursing and other clinical staff and providers.
• Participate in clinical inquiry and evidence‑based practice activities.
• Provide emergency care in accordance with organizational policy.
• Delegate and oversee specific nursing interventions as appropriate.
• Engage in self‑assessment and professional growth activities.
• Maintain current nursing knowledge and competence.
• Utilize resources for professional development.
• Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed providers.
• Collect and document patient clinical history and assessment data.
• Perform onsite testing such as POC lab testing, EKG, specimen collection, and other relevant procedures.
• Perform medical and nursing treatments in accordance with plan of care and scope of practice.
• Perform procedures such as hot and cold applications, orthopedic appliance placement/removal, suture removal, and ear irrigation.
• Apply and remove dressings and perform wound care.
• Assist with minor and major procedures.
• Provide medication administration per provider orders and protocols, including IV therapy and medication refills.
• Administer IV therapy and manage IV lines.

A baccalaureate degree in Nursing is highly preferred; a Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing requires a minimum of one year of experience with plans to earn a baccalaureate degree. Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York is required. Basic Life Support certification is required. Emergency room or critical care nursing experience and membership in professional organizations are preferred. Fluent written and spoken English skills are required.

Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and visual and aural acuity are required.

Registered Nurse License (NYS) and Basic Life Support Certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification. Proficiency in a second language is strongly preferred.
