Teacher - Special Education Mild/Mod

The Special Education Teacher Mild/Moderate Needs provides specialized instruction, intervention, and case management services to students with disabilities who require specially designed instruction in order to access and make progress in the general education curriculum. The teacher collaborates with families, educators, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs), monitor student progress, and promote student independence, academic achievement, and social-emotional growth.

Mild/Moderate Needs Specific A successful Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and individualized supports to students with disabilities in resource, co-teaching, and inclusive educational settings. The teacher promotes access to grade-level standards while fostering independence, self-advocacy, academic growth, and successful participation in school and community environments.

Requirements Education Level Details Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university License / Certification Required Must possess or qualify and receive within 30 days of hire for a Colorado Special Education Generalist endorsement or license appropriate to assignment. CPI, Safety Care, or district-approved de-escalation training preferred. Teachers assigned to grades K-3 must meet all Colorado READ Act training and evidence-based reading instruction requirements established by the Colorado Department of Education.

Teachers serving dually identified multilingual learners may be required to hold, obtain, or work toward a CLDE endorsement consistent with district and state requirements. Work Experience Required Experience providing specialized instruction to students with disabilities. Experience developing and implementing IEPs.

Experience with inclusive practices, co-teaching, and MTSS interventions preferred. Experience collaborating with general education staff and families preferred. Other

Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual students. Design instructional activities which enhance the objectives and which reflect an interdisciplinary/thematic approach to teaching. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the district, board policies, and administrative regulations.

Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Implement Tier I instructional practices aligned with core academic standards, and provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

Collaborate with instructional teams to identify students in need of additional support and deliver targeted Tier II interventions within the MTSS framework. Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion. Deliver specially designed instruction based upon identified disability-related needs and individual student learning profiles. Utilize progress monitoring data to adjust instructional strategies and interventions.

Special Education Services Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with IDEA, ECEA, and district requirements. Serve as the case manager for assigned students and coordinate special education services. Deliver specially designed instruction aligned with student IEP goals and objectives. Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and communicate progress to families and educational teams. Coordinate and participate in annual reviews, reevaluations, eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and transition planning activities as required.
