Safety Representative II
The Safety Representative II plays a critical role in supporting safe and compliant operations across the organization. This position is responsible for conducting field observations, leading safety discussions, verifying policy compliance, and reinforcing expectations among distribution line crews. The Safety Representative serves as a key resource to both field personnel and leadership in promoting hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and incident prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Safety Observations
- Conduct regular field safety observations to evaluate crew compliance with company safety standards and critical task procedures.
- Identify and address unsafe conditions, improper work practices, and coaching opportunities.
- Document all observations and audits per company expectations.
- Training & Communication
- Lead and support safety discussions including tailgate meetings, daily safety briefings, and weekly safety stand-downs.
- Reinforce monthly safety focus topics, critical procedures, and new or updated policies.
- Mentor and support new crew members and foremen in understanding safety responsibilities.
- Incident Response & Analysis
- Respond to worksite incidents as directed to assist with initial investigations and documentation.
- Conduct interviews, gather evidence, and assist with root cause analysis.
- Ensure learning outcomes and corrective actions are implemented and reinforced in the field.
- Policy and Regulatory Compliance
- Verify compliance with OSHA, DOT, customer requirements, and internal safety policies.
- Review job documentation including JSAs, rest/hydration plans, and site safety plans
- Support crews and leadership during safety audits, inspections, and customer reviews.
- Leadership & Culture Building
- Promote a culture of safety ownership and accountability at all levels.
- Recognize and document good catches, near misses, and leading indicators.
- Support implementation of new safety initiatives, programs, and corrective actions.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of Transmission and Substation Safety experience or 7+ years of in electric distribution.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, industry safety practices, and utility safety policies.
- Effective communicator with demonstrated leadership in field environments.
- Ability to travel extensively within assigned region.
- Basic proficiency with mobile documentation tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Safety certifications such as OSHA 500, CSHO, CUSP, or equivalent are preferred.
