We are actively seeking a Utility Damage Investigator / Electric Feeder Auditor at our Commerce City, Colorado office with the expectation of frequent travel throughout the Denver Metro Area. This position will be responsible for investigating and determining the cause of damage to Underground Utilities within our gas operations division. This individual will be required to investigate all damage tickets related to Xcel Energy gas and electric utilities.
This individual must be able to gather information and evidence related to the damage and determine the cause of the incident. This individual must also be able to document findings and prepare reports to support claims for damages. In conjunction with damages, this individual will also audit and verify high profile electric “Feeder” lines for accuracy and quality to ensure standards.

- Prepare detailed reports outlining the findings and recommendations for preventing future damage and improving safety measures
- Conduct on-site field investigations related to Xcel Energy gas and electric utilities
- Responding to damage calls and arriving on-site to assess the situation
- Documenting the damages and taking photographs for record-keeping purposes
- Determining the cause of the damage
- Reviewing maps and as-builts to identify the location and size of underground utilities
- Collaborate with the area Foreman and Trainers in their area to help with callbacks and escalated issues
- Inspecting power lines and poles for signs of damage, wear, or degradation
- Audit and verify electric Feeder lines for tickets closed the previous day from the Feeder audit list
- Follow established auditing process for electric Feeders
- Reporting findings to their supervisor
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years of gas and electric locating experience
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving history
- Possess a fundamental understanding of locating concepts and understanding of utility distribution
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps and utility records
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices
- Proficient user of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to pass drug tests for pre-employment and continuing random tests and possible physicals as required by various state and/or federal agencies and or QUS for safe operation of equipment
- Other duties as assigned
