Position Overview

Assistant Store Manager supports the store manager in executing the store strategy to achieve performance goals. The role leads others by teaching and coaching store staff to cultivate a high‑performing team that delivers a best‑in‑class customer experience.

Responsibilities
  • Support the store manager in achieving financial targets by monitoring and improving measurable business statistics.
  • Manage store staff to maximize sales, traffic flow, floor coverage, and customer engagement; adjust schedules as necessary.
  • Lead by example, model company core values, and appropriately manage conflict.
  • Model and supervise the selling environment, providing consistent coaching on sales, product, and staff training to ensure the highest level of customer service and sales.
  • Partner with the store manager to execute effective store communications and keep staff involved and updated.
  • Maintain Southern Tide aesthetic across all touch points, including associate presentation, dress, visual standards, maintenance, and merchandising.
  • Assist in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of store staff.
  • Train, guide, and coach staff on selling and service skills, driving transformational customer experiences and exceeding sales targets.
  • Ensure visual merchandising and maintenance standards are met at all times.
  • Adhere to all operational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy of information entered in POS and other technology.
  • Make bank deposits and open/close store and/or registers.
  • Lead the team in handling merchandise receipts and transfers quickly and accurately.
  • Lead the team in the visual merchandising of the sales floor.
  • Understand, execute, and train on all cash‑handling and reporting functions.
  • Enforce people policies and process employee paperwork accurately and in a timely manner (payroll, time/attendance, changes, discipline).
  • Protect company assets by adhering to all loss prevention and operational policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver coaching on selling and service skills to drive transformational customer experiences and exceed sales targets.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
    Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Business and/or Merchandising preferred.
  • Generally 4+ years retail experience with at least two years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Basic retail math skills.
  • Experience with POS systems.
  • Exposure to merchandising and retail visual concepts.
  • Strong communicator who guides and influences others effectively.
  • Comfortable facilitating conflict resolution through interpretation of company policies.
  • Analytical thinker who enjoys problem solving.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized.
  • Natural leader who enjoys hands‑on work.
