Job Description

Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time 10-month tenure-track position teaching Fire Technology courses including but not limited to Fire Technology. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of subjects related to Fire and Emergency Technology, not limited to fire training, fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical technology, and coordination/instruction in the fire academy.

Representative duties include: liaison among the colleges, the State Fire Marshal s Office and local fire agencies; evaluation of instructional staff; assisting with record-keeping functions; ensuring mandated changes in regulations are implemented. May include weekend assignments. Participation as a faculty member includes faculty meetings and student activities. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree and 5 years full-time equivalent Fire and Emergency Technology experience; OR
  • Associate s degree and 6 years full-time equivalent Fire and Emergency Technology experience; OR
  • The equivalent — candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent; OR
  • Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject.

Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years supervisory experience in a municipal fire department at the rank of captain or above.
  • Community College teaching experience.
Environment
  • Indoor environment.
  • Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
  • Evening or variable hours.
Physical Demands
  • Incorporated within essential functions of the job; includes review of the chart indicating time spent on listed physical requirements.
  • Examples of requirements include: working at a desk or in meetings; sitting for extended periods; seeing to read; hearing and understanding speech; communicating clearly; lifting up to 5 lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range: $55,669 - $89,569 (depending upon education and experience).

Conditions of Employment

Full-time, tenure-track teaching position commences Fall 2026.
