Administrative Assistant III
To perform advanced professional and technical administrative assistance in conducting comprehensive analyses and coordination of municipal policies, organization, and finance and services.
This is the journey level of the Administrative Assistant III series. This class may be distinguished from the II level by the difficulty and complexity of work performed and by the direct supervision of lower level professional personnel. This class requires the frequent use of a high degree of independent judgment in making decisions.
Direction is provided by higher-level departmental personnel. Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Investigate, interpret, analyze, and prepare recommendations in relation to proposals for new programs, grants, and services.
- Analyze, interpret, and explain city policies and procedures; confer with members of the public to explain policies and programs.
- Investigate and prepare reports on specific requests and complaints pertaining to various governmental activities or legislation.
- Coordinate City-wide legislative activities and supervise other federal grants; develop and coordinate special projects such as assessment proceedings, EDA grant monitoring, sewer improvement project, and five year master plan.
- Conduct research, and analyze statistical and other data; make recommendations on administrative, operational problems, policies, and procedures.
- Assist in budget preparation and review; report on the budget status of various activities.
- Prepare agenda and minutes of weekly staff and Department Director meetings; attend meetings and perform administrative tasks.
- Coordinate inter-departmental or inter-agency activities of the City departments and divisions.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of :
Principles and practices of public administration and legislation.
Principles and practices of organization and management.
Advance research techniques, sources and availability of information, and methods of report presentation.
Applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to local government operations and legislation.
Respond to citizen inquiries.
Experience and Training :
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience :
Three years of responsible experience comparable to that of an Administrative Assistant II in the City of Compton.
Training :
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration or a closely related field.
