Yard Supervisor
In this role, the Yard Supervisor is responsible for all daily yard activities including planning, organizing gate management, yard drivers, yard equipment, shuttles to any offsite yard and yard inventory locations. The Yard Manager pursues exceptional service to our internal stakeholders, which are the warehouses and dock personnel who unload and load the freight.
Essential Functions:
- Manages a 24/7-yard operation including off-site yard locations.
- Constant communication and networking with important stakeholders for both import and domestic carriers to maintain positive relationships.
- Ensures the entire yard is in good condition and for it to be clean and safe on a regular basis, to upkeep with safety guidelines.
- Drive yard operation productivity to maintain and push for KPI goals.
- Will be responsible for approving all labor hours for all yard staffing.
- Create and confirm that DOT driver files are kept for Class A drivers.
- Confirm that all street legal yard tractors have the proper DOT placarding on them for operation.
- Oversees internal customer relationships and exceeding expectation in terms of KPI's and productivity requirements.
- Monitor and report issues with any portion of the yard infrastructure or our Yard Management System.
- Analyze current processes and usage of our YMS and make recommendations for process improvements.
- Maintain a fleet inventory of yard tractors and add resources for peak season or when necessary.
- Evaluate ingate and out gate processes and adjust as needed to keep the gates moving with minimal delays.
- Conduct regularly scheduled yard audits to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure all off site yards are properly recording and reporting activity at each location.
- Collaborate with other departments such as dray planning, warehouse ops, and the office.
- Plan and implement the efficient utilization of labor in order to achieve budgeted goals for the gate staff and yard rivers.
- Ensure the availability of a skilled workforce by collaborating with Human Resources, Temporary Agencies and Safety Management in determining and delivering required training programs.
- Establish standard operational procedures (SOPs) and continuous improvement activities to achieve optimum efficiency and budgeted return on investment (ROI) objectives.
- Develop a highly productive staff of subordinates by actively participating in recruitment, selection, performance management, and reward/recognition programs.
- Ensure that high levels of employee commitment are focused on Custom Goods' mission, vision, and values.
- Provide for the safety and well-being of all employees.
- Actively participate in the development of annual operating budgets, capital investment, cost reduction, continuous improvement, and accident prevention programs.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret verbal and written requests and directions. Must have the ability to compose letters, memos, emails and other written documentation clearly and concisely. Be able to present oneself in a highly cooperative and professional manner when meeting both internal and external customers and vendors face to face.

Compensation: $22.00 Per Hour Required
Education and Experience:
- High School or GED with relevant job experience
- Two to three years of demonstrated supervisory or managerial experience in a high-volume warehouse, preferably cross dock or transloading, distribution, manufacturing or similar environment.
- Demonstrate effective management planning, organizing, communicating, directing, controlling, and innovating skills.
- Must have strong organizational skills and excellent customer service skills with the ability to grasp extensive knowledge while dealing with a variety of people.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer literacy with MS Office Suite essential; prior experience with Warehouse Management Systems or Yard Management System desirable.
