Summary / Objective
In this role, the Yard Supervisor is responsible for all daily yard activities, including planning, gate management, yard drivers, yard equipment, shuttles to off-site yards, and yard inventory locations. The Yard Manager pursues exceptional service to internal stakeholders – the warehouses and dock personnel who unload and load freight.
Essential Functions- Manage a 24/7 yard operation, including off-site yard locations.
- Maintain constant communication with key stakeholders for import and domestic carriers to foster positive relationships.
- Ensure the yard is clean, safe, and maintained in line with safety guidelines.
- Drive yard operation productivity to meet and exceed KPI goals.
- Approve all labor hours for yard staffing.
- Create and confirm that DOT driver files for Class A drivers are kept.
- Ensure street-legal yard tractors display proper DOT placarding.
- Oversee internal customer relationships and exceed expectations regarding KPIs and productivity.
- Monitor and report issues with yard infrastructure or the Yard Management System.
- Analyze current processes and usage of the YMS, making recommendations for process improvements.
- Maintain a fleet inventory of yard tractors and add resources during peak seasons as needed.
- Evaluate ingate and outgate processes, adjusting them to keep gates moving with minimal delays.
- Conduct scheduled yard audits to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure off-site yards properly record and report activity at each location.
- Collaborate with departments such as dray planning, warehouse ops, and the office.
- Plan and implement efficient labor utilization to achieve budgeted goals for gate staff and yard workers.
- Ensure a skilled workforce by collaborating with HR, temporary agencies, and Safety Management in delivering required training programs.
- Establish standard operating procedures and continuous-improvement activities to achieve optimal efficiency and ROI.
- Develop a productive staff through recruitment, selection, performance management, and recognition programs.
- Ensure employee commitment to Custom Goods’ mission, vision, and values.
- Provide for the safety and well-being of all employees.
- Participate in annual operating budgets, capital investment, cost-reduction, continuous improvement, and accident-prevention programs.
- Communication skills: ability to read, analyze, and interpret verbal and written requests; compose clear letters, memos, emails; and present professionally to internal and external customers and vendors.

$22.00 per hour.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High School or GED with relevant job experience.
- Two to three years of proven supervisory or managerial experience in a high-volume warehouse, preferably cross-dock or transloading, distribution, manufacturing, or a similar environment.
- Demonstrated effective management skills: planning, organizing, communicating, directing, controlling, and innovating.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent customer-service orientation while dealing with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer literacy in MS Office Suite; prior experience with Warehouse Management Systems or Yard Management Systems is desirable.
