Under general supervision, performs para‑transit dispatch duties; answers phones and enters transit requests into computer; notifies drivers of cancellations and schedule changes; monitors status and locations of vehicles to ensure all scheduled work is performed in a timely manner; follows established City policies and procedures regarding the transportation of elderly and/or passengers with physical disabilities; maintains positive public relations with passengers;
and performs other related duties. Works under general supervision of the Neighborhood Center Manager; does not exercise supervisory responsibilities.
- Performs dispatch duties; notifies drivers of cancellations and schedule changes; answers phones and enters transit requests into computer; confirms pick‑up and drop‑off times for the following day.
- Monitors status and locations of vehicles to ensure all scheduled work is performed in a timely manner.
- Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor for resolution.
- Answers questions from passengers regarding schedules and routing; listens to complaints regarding delays or problems encountered in the provision of services.
- Maintains timely and accurate radio and telephone contact with drivers; keeps dispatcher informed regarding delays, breakdowns and client transportation problems encountered; completes required paperwork.
- Maintains courteous, professional and efficient manner in passenger relations.
- Participates in safety and related training programs.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Possession of a High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent; AND six (6) months of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications- Must possess a valid California Class B Driver’s License/Passenger Endorsement.
- First Aid and CPR.
- City organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- City Code, City Ordinances, and Standard Operating Manual.
- Transit operations and area streets and highways.
- Safety practices including first aid.
- Standard office principles and procedures including recordkeeping.
- Telephone etiquette and customer service protocol.
- Personal computer usage and applicable software.
- Following established City policies and procedures regarding the transportation of elderly and/or passengers with physical disabilities.
- Operating 2‑way radio system and learning/using 10‑codes.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Following oral and written instructions.
- Operating standard office equipment and a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Effective verbal and written communication including hearing normal conversation.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, City departments, outside agencies, passengers and the general public.
- Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.
- Work may involve exposure to wet surfaces, occasional loud noise and dust.
- Work requires lifting up to 10 lbs., carrying and driving.
- Moderate finger dexterity and near vision is required.
