Comstock Park Special Education Instructional & Medical Support Paraprofessional

Comstock Park is seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.

Position Summary

The Special Education Instructional & Medical Support Paraprofessional assists instructional staff in delivering academic interventions to eligible Special Education students across district settings. This position provides essential medical support and health oversight throughout school facilities. Additionally, this role serves as a key liaison to provide academic support and outreach to Special Education English Learner (EL) Spanish-speaking students and families across the district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Academic & Instructional Support:
    • Help implement and maintain Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs and district initiatives.
  • Medical & Health Support:
    • Utilize LPN credentials to monitor student health needs, administer basic medical care or medications as authorized, and respond to health-related concerns across all school settings.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student academic, medical, and personal records.
  • Family & Community Engagement:
    • Connect and communicate with Special Education students and families to support academic engagement and district connection.
  • General Operations:
    • Safely escort students to and from various rooms, facilities, and transportation areas.
    • Operate standard office and educational equipment (e.g., computers, copiers, laminators, instructional software).
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise children individually or in small groups as needed throughout the school day.
Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the required knowledge, skill, and ability.   • Education, Licensing & Credentials:
    • Current State LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) License required.
    • Associate Degree AND must meet the minimum qualifications outlined in Appendix B of the CPEEA Support Staff Master Agreement to qualify as a Federal and State instructional aide.
  • Language & Communication Skills:
    • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to students, staff, and parents.
    • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Experience working with school-aged students and Special Education youth preferred.
    • Prior experience working with and supporting Hispanic families is highly desirable.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the district with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records Live Scan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
