We are seeking a detail‑oriented Staff Accountant with 2‑3+ years of experience to support financial operations for a solid waste services organization. This role is responsible for daily accounting functions, accurate financial reporting, and supporting operational teams including dispatch, maintenance, and leadership.
Experience with
Costpoint is a plus but not required.
- Prepare and post journal entries for hauling, fuel, disposal, and maintenance activity
- Reconcile general ledger accounts including fuel inventory, tipping fees, rebates, and depreciation
- Assist with month‑end and year‑end close
- Support financial statement preparation and internal reporting
- Process vendor invoices for equipment repairs, fuel, landfill charges, subcontractors, and supplies
- Validate charges against contracts, scale tickets, and service logs
- Maintain vendor files and ensure timely payments
- Resolve discrepancies with internal departments and external vendors
- Process credits, adjustments, and reconciliations
- Track and analyze key cost drivers (fuel, maintenance, disposal, labor, tires)
- Maintain fleet asset schedules, depreciation records, and capital expenditure tracking
- Support budgeting and forecasting for contracts, equipment, and facility operations
- Maintain required financial documentation for audits
- Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements
- Support reporting needs for recycling, diversion, and sustainability programs
- Manage filings for disposal sites and required local/state permits
- Work closely with operations to reconcile cost variances
- Coordinate with maintenance on repair orders, parts usage, and fleet cost allocations
- Assist leadership with financial analysis, pricing support, and operational improvements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2‑3+ years of accounting experience (industry experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with Costpoint or similar accounting software (preferred, not required)
- Ability to analyze operational data (scale tickets, route sheets, fuel logs)
- Experience with cloud‑based fleet or work order systems (Samsara, Fleetio, Routeware, etc.)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to pass a credit check
Pay: $65,000‑$83,000 per year
