Certified Payroll Specialist

Pay: $30 - $40 hourly

Position Summary:

The Certified Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll accurately and on time, maintaining payroll records, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, and supporting audits, reporting, and employee payroll inquiries. This role typically requires strong knowledge of payroll systems, tax withholding, garnishments, benefits deductions, and certified payroll reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Process weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly payroll for employees

+ Prepare and submit certified payroll reports as required

+ Maintain payroll records, earnings, deductions, taxes, and direct deposit information

+ Ensure compliance with prevailing wage, union, and government contract payroll requirements

+ Reconcile payroll reports, general ledger entries, and tax filings

+ Administer wage garnishments, benefit deductions, and payroll adjustments

+ Respond to employee questions regarding pay, taxes, and deductions

+ Support payroll audits and year-end processing, including W-2 preparation

+ Partner with HR, finance, and project teams to validate employee and labor data

+ Monitor changes in payroll laws and regulations to maintain compliance

Requirements

Qualifications:

+ Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar payroll certification preferred

+ 3+ years of payroll experience, including certified payroll reporting

+ Knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations

+

Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Workday, Ceridian, UKG, or similar

+ Strong Excel and reporting skills

+ High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality

+ Experience in construction, government contracting, or union payroll environments is often preferred
