This role is an exciting opportunity to join The Conco Companies based in Concord, California. This is a

chance to join a company that has been delivering premium concrete services throughout the Western

United States since 1959.

This position reports to and collaborates with the CFO and leads the company’s accounting function

across multiple operating and real estate entities. The ideal candidate has formal accounting education

including a CPA (preferred), possesses several years of construction and real estate accounting

experience, has a professional, self-motivated, positive attitude, can perform with minimal supervision,

and loves a challenge. The position also oversees the company’s corporate and owner tax planning

and compliance. The ideal candidate has the desire and capacity to grow with the company and

  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop supervisors and their teams across the accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger departments, establishing goals and objectives and ensuring a timely monthly close.
  • Own monthly financial reporting for multiple operating and real estate entities — review and distribute statements, add management commentary, and analyze results versus budget and prior periods, identifying trends and concerns.
  • Apply and maintain a strong understanding of GAAP (depreciation, capitalization, ASC 606 revenue recognition, purchase price allocation) and research and document technical accounting matters.
  • Review and revise accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve accuracy, transparency, and control activities.
  • Oversee daily banking and cash flow management, maintain banking relationships, ensure compliance with financial covenants, and develop and maintain long-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Direct job-cost and applied-cost analysis — monitor variances, identify trends, guide the cost analysis process, and meet with estimators on material applied reports.
  • Manage and evaluate physical inventory across multiple locations and review job cost and fixed asset activity.
  • Oversee the company’s corporate and owner tax planning and compliance, including quarterly estimates, multi-state returns, sales/use and personal property tax, and coordination with the
  • Support the annual financial audit and preparation of published financial statements, including the CPA PBC list, scheduling, and fieldwork.
  • Assist the Risk Manager with corporate insurance renewals (GL, Workers’ Comp, Auto, OCIP), audits, and actuarial review, and analyze payroll applied-cost rates.
  • Review and approve financial information for subcontractor prequalification.
  • Manage recurring balance sheet schedules, billings analyses, 1099 filings, and additional tasks and schedules as requested.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of accounting and tax experience in a construction setting and/or public accounting experience with construction clients required, including prior supervisory or
  • Excellent understanding of, and experience with, US GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, revenue recognition under ASC 606, corporate tax concepts, job costing and WIP reporting, regulations and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-entity and real estate accounting, including consolidations and intercompany activity.
  • Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, MS Office proficiency, and experience with project/construction accounting software.
  • A track record of developing engaged, high-performing teams and implementing process improvements.
