Overview
Assist estimators by quantifying elements of construction using PDF plans, 2D CAD files, and 3D models. Responsibilities include producing scopes of work (not limited to) for quantities such as demolition, mass earthworks, roadways, highways, aviation, and school facilities site work; underground utilities; and assisting with bid closings by running bids and comparing quotes. Capable of generating earthwork volumes using PDF plans or 3D models and calculating volumes using Average End Area methods.
Use Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets that calculate, compare, and summarize quantities.
- Assist estimators by quantifying elements of construction using PDF plans, 2D CAD files, and 3D models, including scopes of work (not limited to):
Demolition, Mass earthworks, Roadways, Highways, Aviation, School Facilities Site Work, Underground utilities. - Assist estimators in bid closings – preparing PDF sheets, running bids, and comparing quotes.
- Capable of generating earthwork volumes using PDF plans or 3D models. Able to calculate earthwork volumes using Average End Area volume methods.
- Using Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets that can calculate, compare, and summarize quantities of construction materials.
- Reviewing contract documents, including drawings and specifications.
- Ability to understand the scope of work, project constraints, construction tolerances, and different material types.
- Complete takeoffs utilizing partially complete or in-progress design documents. Be able to conceptually visualize the general intent on incomplete drawings (advanced).
- Maintain organized records, working drawings, and take-off summaries.
- Identify missing design elements or overlaps in work areas with other disciplines.
- Create exhibits for review purposes showing take-off assumptions and communicating what has been included or excluded from quantity take-off.
- Coordinate with other takeoff personnel to facilitate take-off and quantity comparison of a project s construction components in a timely manner. Stay on schedule and gauge the level of effort required to complete the task.
- Familiar with reviewing construction drawings and project specifications including general arrangements, plans and elevations, topographic site plans, site grading plans, typical sections, details, and cross sections.
- Engineering math skills, with ability to measure, calculate, and convert material volumes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel. Able to use Excel to calculate end areas, volumes, and summarize quantities.
- Ability to create and/or review complex mathematical formulas to assist with calculating area measurements.
- Experience with take-off software such as Agtek, Onscreen, Bluebeam, Plan Swift, or similar preferred but not required.
- Experience working on design-build construction projects or estimates preferred but not required.
- 2 years of relevant work experience in heavy civil construction.
Base Salary Range: $60,000-$90,000. Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.

- Must be able to interact professionally with ALL LEVELS of management.
- Simultaneously manage a diversified workload with multiple lines of reporting and communication.
- Demonstrate the ability to work on multiple projects, under tight deadlines with minimal direct supervision.
