Terracon is seeking a Staff Industrial Hygienist to join our team in the East San Francisco Bay Area, (Concord) CA. This position would be part of a very skilled team that performs airborne chemical monitoring, noise assessments, indoor air quality surveys, asbestos and lead in building materials investigations, safety audits, and other activities. This position will be primarily based in Concord, CA but will provide support for projects in the entire San Francisco Bay area and occasionally elsewhere throughout the state.
You will conduct initial building inspections, asbestos and lead abatement oversight, and assist project managers with industrial hygiene inspections.
You will evaluate sampling results, prepare risk assessment reports, and develop recommendations to correct and improve the environment.
The position also entails presenting and communicating findings and report recommendations to clients. In addition, you will support other environmental services such as Phase I Assessments, Limited Site Investigations, and regulatory compliance, as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Performing building inspections for asbestos-containing materials in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Sampling of painted coatings (via paint chip or XRF) in commercial and industrial settings.
- Performing indoor air quality assessments and other industrial hygiene assessments such as worker exposure monitoring complying with Cal/OSHA regulations.
- Performing air monitoring and visual inspections during asbestos and lead abatement projects.
- Calibrating, cleaning and maintaining field monitoring equipment, such as sampling devices, and microscopes.
- Following safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participating in pre-task planning. Reporting any safety issues or concerns to management. Candidate will be required to adhere to strict company health and safety standards.
- May serve as team member or participate in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
- Ability to climb ladders, lift/carry equipment (generally up to 50 lbs.), stand for long periods of time.
- Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related science field or 4-6 years related experience.
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- DOSH Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) or Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC)
- CDPH Lead Sampling Technician, Lead Inspector/Assessor and/or Lead Project Monitor
- A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
