Position: VP Finance (14 Month Role – Maternity Leave Coverage) (Concord)

Overview of the Role

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to join Henry's on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity to make an immediate impact within a dynamic retail environment. The VP of Finance will drive financial strategy and performance, align with company goals to maximize profitability and growth, manage financial risks, optimize capital allocation, and ensure compliance with regulations through accurate reporting and strong controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage Finance and IT Departments.
  • Strategic Project Leadership:
    Spearhead and collaborate on initiatives such as financial system customizations, process optimization, and change management programs.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    Direct the preparation of accurate, timely consolidated financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annual) with detailed notes for executive leadership and investors, and provide weekly results to owners highlighting major events or trends.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis:
    Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support reporting, strategic initiatives, and emerging opportunities, and oversee the FP&A function.
  • Accounting & Finance Operations Management:
    Oversee all accounting and finance operations, develop and manage the annual budget and forecasts, implement robust risk management strategies, and maintain internal controls.
  • Tax Strategy & Compliance:
    Manage monthly and annual tax activities, filings, and elections; liaise with the CRA for sales tax audits.
  • Bank Reporting & Compliance:
    Liaise with the bank to deliver weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements and ensure covenant compliance.
  • Process Improvement & Technology Implementation:
    Champion initiatives to enhance accounting workflow efficiency and leverage emerging technologies in financial, payroll, and reporting systems.
  • Business Administration Support:
    Provide support for contract negotiation, insurance renewals, real‑estate oversight, record retention protocols, and procurement expense management.
  • Payroll Oversight:
    Supervise accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Cash Flow Monitoring & Management:
    Monitor and manage daily cash flow, implementing strategies to optimize liquidity and ensure financial stability.
  • Oversee IT Department:
    Provide leadership to the Director of IT and evaluate IT project scopes, ROI, and KPIs.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing finance team, fostering continuous learning and career advancement.
  • Audit Management:
    Coordinate year‑end audit processes, prepare schedules and statements with external auditors, and ensure timely delivery of audited financial statements to ownership and lenders.
Business Development & Innovation
  • Design and present cost‑cutting strategies.
  • Innovate business models to reduce costs and increase operational efficiencies.
  • Provide financial insights to business leaders and stakeholders.
  • Ensure performance management with accountability and ROI focus.
Reporting and Administration
  • Cashflow monitoring and working capital management.
  • Payment approvals.
  • KPI reviews.
  • Financial statement preparations and presentation.
  • Budget and forecast variance analysis.
Success Metrics
  • Improve EBITDA and financial ratios.
  • Implement company cost‑reduction initiatives.
  • Review and adjust accounting policies and processes as needed.
  • Enhance cash flow through working capital restructuring.
  • Align finance requirements with long‑term company goals.
  • Improve reporting for strategic decision‑making.
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • CPA designation with 10+ years of business and operational finance leadership.
  • In‑depth knowledge of accounting (ASPE) and ERP financial systems (preferably D365 Finance and Operations).
  • Track record of success in a finance leadership role, including coaching and growing a high‑performing team.
