Assistant Pool Manager / Pool Manager

Aquatics Program

The City of Concord's Recreation Services Department is seeking people to work for the City's Aquatics Program. Salary is negotiable based on experience.

  • Assistant Pool Manager: $21.50 - $22.59/hour, with a minimum of 3 seasons of experience
  • Pool Manager: $24.33 - $24.93/hour, with a minimum of 5 seasons of experience

The Aquatics Program: The Concord Community Pool at 3501 Cowell Rd is one of the City’s most popular facilities, serving approximately 124,000 swimmers per year in learn-to-swim classes, lap swim, recreational swim, and water exercise programs, and serving as a practice site for many swim teams. The pool is open year-round, heated to 80 degrees, and is 50 meters in length.

The pool also features heated changing rooms and showers.

What you will be doing: Under supervision, Assistant Pool Managers and Pool Managers are responsible for seasonal and year-round operation of a community swimming pool, including lead supervision of pool lifeguards, swimming instructors, and other employees; applying and enforcing rules and regulations governing health, safety, and welfare of patrons; the overall operation and maintenance of the pool, its equipment, and facilities;

conducting and expanding swim instruction programs; and determining priority of use of the pool and facilities. The Pool Manager operates with a higher level of independence and participates in program scheduling, recruitment, and staffing. All positions are part-time, limited service, and must be able to work approximately 20-30 hours per week, including early morning (5:30 AM – 10:00 AM), evening, and weekend shifts when required;

and attend weekly in-service trainings.

Selection Process:

  • Successful candidates will be given a conditional offer of employment and must successfully complete a fingerprint check, TB testing, and either obtain or have a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Prerequisites for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification include: minimum age of 15 years; completion of swim-tread-swim sequence and a timed event as specified in the original description.
  • Conviction History: If you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job.

    Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude employment.

    • Organizes and conducts swimming, diving, lifeguarding, and related swim classes; attends meetings as required.
    • Trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates swim staff personnel.
    • Enforces department rules and regulations regarding health, safety, and welfare of pool users.
    • Maintains the pool in a clean and orderly condition and inspects sanitation and maintenance per local/state health and safety codes.
    • Tests water quality and adjusts controls to maintain desirable conditions; may perform related maintenance.
    • Maintains records including cash transactions, attendance, accidents, program summaries, and supplies.
    • Requests supplies and coordinates repairs or upgrades as needed.
    • Follows emergency procedures, administers first aid and/or CPR.
    • May act as pool lifeguard or swim instructor as required.
    • Conducts weekly in-service training; recruits and assists with part-time staffing; assists with program schedules; develops promotional materials; performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge of:
