Long Term Substitute - Grade 1 Teacher

Alcott Elementary School seeks an experienced, highly skilled properly certified long term substitute to teach first grade from the beginning of the school year through October 16, 2026. This individual will be the primary educator for a self-contained cohort of 16-20 students. They are responsible for all aspects of classroom planning, instruction, management, assessment, parent communication, and team-based curriculum development.

A strong candidate will demonstrate:

A passion for teaching young children as well as a deep understanding of the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of upper elementary students.

Excellence in integrated, child-centered teaching, curriculum development, lesson planning, technology integration, and formative use of student assessments for kindergarten students.

Strong record of working collaboratively with team members, including Curriculum Specialists and the Special Education team to identify and support student needs.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and anti-racism training

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate directly, effectively, respectfully and constructively with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.

An ability to effectively differentiate curriculum to teach students with diverse learning styles.

An ability to work closely with the special education team to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Proficiency with technology and technology integration to support learning.

Strong prior teaching experience in early literacy and numeracy

Must value integrity, professionalism, curiosity, responsibility, creativity and respect for all.

Experience with Responsive Classroom.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with significant coursework in early childhood education required;
Master's degree preferred.
