Job Description The kindergarten Spanish teacher is responsible for teaching students at all three Concord elementary schools. Kindergarten students receive Spanish instruction for 25 minutes twice per week. This is a 0.6 position for one year only.
The program is based on the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, also known as the five Cs:
Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities, and the MA DESE Frameworks. The program aims to develop proficiency in Spanish with a focus on interpersonal listening and speaking skills. Students learn through developmentally appropriate songs, games, theater, and other learning activities that support learning the Spanish language and becoming familiar with the various cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. All teaching and learning take place using Spanish for 85% of the lesson.
Familiarity with standards-based Spanish education and mastery of technology platforms that enhance language learning are required. Knowledge of Comprehensible Input and TPRS is preferred.
Self-reflection skills, data analysis competencies, and the ability to effectively collaborate with others are essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to work well with students, parents, colleagues, and community members. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. A bachelor's degree and an appropriate Massachusetts teaching license are required; a master's degree is preferred.
