The Opportunity
You will design and build the power electronics that drive underwater maritime systems - from unmanned underwater vehicle payloads and electromechanical actuation systems to acoustic communication transceivers and high-power acoustic transmit arrays. This is hands-on R&D work where your designs move from schematic to prototype to ocean-ready hardware. You will collaborate directly with engineers, scientists, and customers in a small-team environment where technical excellence and innovation are the priority.
Why You'll Love This Role
- Work across a wide variety of multidisciplinary programs spanning cutting-edge underwater technologies
- Small company environment with direct collaboration alongside colleagues and customers who value creativity
- Full relocation assistance provided
- Competitive compensation with top-tier benefits and 401(k)
- Design, develop, integrate, and debug complex power electronics systems including DC/DC and AC/DC converters, power amplifiers, magnetics, and energy storage components ranging from 500W to 50kW
- Select components, capture schematics, design PCBs, and run verification testing for harsh underwater operating environments
- Interface power systems with embedded processors and integrate high-power components into larger system architectures
- Troubleshoot electronic systems using oscilloscopes, DMMs, function generators, and digital measurement probes
- Travel to support on-site testing (up to 25%)
Required:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in power systems
- BSEE with 4+ years of relevant experience, or MSEE with 1+ years of relevant experience
- Proven track record designing, implementing, and testing high-voltage/high-power electrical components for prototype R&D systems
- Experience with high availability power supplies and/or failover systems
- Comprehensive knowledge of power devices including MOSFETs, Schottky Diodes, SiC FETs, and IGBTs
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical actuators, DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and magnetics
- Basic MATLAB-aided data analysis skills
- Proficiency with standard electronic lab test equipment
- Experience designing electronics for underwater maritime systems or acoustic transducers
- Familiarity with power converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, SEPIC) and their control methods
- Experience designing electric machines and/or drives
- PCB layout experience or vendor management for board layout
- EMC design and high-power system integration experience
- C/C++ or Python coding for microcontrollers or embedded platforms
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and briefing customers
- Background in R&D environments and small multidisciplinary teams
