About Commonwealth Fusion Systems

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis

We are now hiring our VP of FP&A to lead us through our next phases of finance team and systems growth. This is a unique opportunity to build the financial engine of a company and to architect and lead the finance effort for a multi‑billion‑dollar portfolio of first‑of‑a‑kind infrastructure, manufacturing, and R&D projects.

What you'll do
  • Finance Operating System
    :
Continuously improve the company's financial systems, processes, and tools as the company delivers fusion power plants, grows our manufacturing operation, and expands our cutting edge R&D
  • FP&A for our Manufacturing Business
: CFS has two core businesses. The first is an OEM business that develops, designs, manufactures, ships, and supports magnets and tokamak components. You will lead and grow the FP&A team that supports this business, providing real‑time financial analytics and reporting that aids decision making across the business
  • FP&A for our EPC Business
: CFS's second core business is an infrastructure EPC that designs and delivers fusion power plants. This requires a unique set of FP&A, Project Controls, Earned Value Management, and Project Management capabilities tailored to billion‑dollar infrastructure projects delivered at hyperscaler pace. You will lead and grow this team as we prepare the company to deliver many ARC power plants globally
  • Commercial FP&A:
As CFS transitions to commercial delivery of power plants, your team will partner with the Commercial team to build unit economics, pricing models, and financial analysis frameworks. You will provide critical financial support for customer contracts, energy delivery deals, and the long‑term profitability of our fusion power plants
  • Corporate Planning
    :
Strengthen CFS's corporate planning function that connects long‑term strategy with short‑term execution. Your team will manage the creation of the annual operating plans and provide executives with scenarios and analysis to inform corporate strategy
What we're looking for
  • 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including VP‑level strategic leadership roles managing core FP&A and building new corporate capabilities
  • An exceptional architect of scalable financial systems and practices that ensure data integrity amidst complexity while democratizing that data to aid decision making for all budget owners. Demonstrated ability to leverage financial data at scale to drive operational improvements across an organization
  • Manufacturing FP&A experience, leading and building financial systems that support and continuously improve a well‑oiled operational machine
  • Plant Infrastructure FP&A experience, leading and building financial systems that support the delivery of billion‑dollar class infrastructure projects. Track record of leading, developing, and scaling exceptional finance teams
  • Proven success in capital‑intensive, pre‑revenue settings, with expertise in scenario planning and cash management
Bonus points for
  • Proven ability to navigate and succeed in matrix organizational structures
Must‑have Requirements
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
