The Registered Nurse – Psychiatric Unit provides comprehensive nursing care to patients experiencing mental health disorders in inpatient or outpatient psychiatric settings. This role involves assessing mental status, administering medications, implementing treatment plans, and supporting patients’ emotional and psychological well-being.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct thorough mental health assessments and monitor patients’ psychiatric status.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, observing for side effects and efficacy.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors.
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and available resources.
- Document patient care, progress, and behavioral observations accurately and promptly.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to patient discharge planning.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and crisis management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHN-BC) or equivalent.
- Training in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and therapeutic communication.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
